28,000 m² of surface area. 225 parking spaces. A new builders' merchant centre in Baden-Württemberg. IBB Wörn Ingenieure GmbH planned the surface drainage digitally with BBSoft®.
Challenge
Where does the water flow?
The area must be drained without flooding parking spaces or directing water towards the building. At the same time, the gradient must not exceed 2 % to ensure shopping trolleys remain safe to use.
Gradients, fixed points and low points: everything has to fit precisely.
Everything was planned within one continuous digital model: connected, precise and directly verifiable.

225 parking spaces, building connection, access road, and stormwater retention basin must be coordinated so runoff drains reliably – at a maximum slope of 2%. In site works of this scale, what matters is that grades, control points, and low points aren't treated in isolation. A digital model reveals how the entire site performs as one connected system.
Solution
Surface drainage planned digitally.
Using the BBSoft® catchment areas, the low point of the site was identified. This made it possible to position the stormwater retention basin for heavy rainfall events exactly where it was needed.
In addition, the sewer planning was also carried out with BBSoft®. The private access road in front of the building was designed using the road planning module. This clearly demonstrates how digital tools and engineering expertise work together, ensuring that stormwater simply follows the right path.
When planning takes shape
Before surfaces are paved and parking spaces are constructed, the crucial work takes place within the digital height planning. The model identifies at an early stage where stormwater will flow, where low points will occur and which areas require targeted drainage.
This transforms a large surface area into a controllable drainage system.
