BIM-Based Civil Engineering Planning with BBSoft®
With BIM (Building Information Modeling), a reliable and practical module is available that is continuously developed to support compliant planning of digital civil engineering projects – including via an IFC interface.
BIM combines object-oriented planning with the exchange of standardized IFC data: 3D solids for alignments, manholes, pipelines, and digital terrain models can be transferred via the IFC interface to external applications, such as building construction CAD systems. This enables collision detection and ensures seamless BIM-based project communication.
Functions in Detail
The central component for all other BBSoft® software modules: it manages project management, structures the data basis, and controls data interfaces as well as system logic.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) in civil engineering in accordance with the German step-by-step plan for digital planning and construction – BBSoft® relies on object-oriented infrastructure planning with linked object dependencies. All disciplines enable objects to be interconnected: changes to the elevation profile of a road automatically update manhole covers, while calculated catchment areas automatically position road inlets. In longitudinal and cross-profiles, utility collisions are automatically highlighted using the “intersecting elements” function – enabling early cost control and minimizing delays during the construction phase.

- IFC data transfer to building construction CAD systems (e.g. Autodesk Revit) for collision detection
- Planning from design through to construction billing within one integrated software solution
The proprietary IFC export from BBSoft® enables the transfer of complex attribute data and geometries into standardized 3D models – in IFC versions 2x3, 4, and 4x3. While IFC 4x3 is generated independently of CAD, attribute data such as material, dimensions, and year of construction is transferred directly from BBSoft® via IFC in all versions. The exported project can be visualized in an external IFC viewer for collision detection.

- IFC export of wastewater data: manholes, reaches, road inlets, house connections, and special structures
- IFC export of water supply data: pipelines, fittings, and components

- IFC export of 3D terrain models (3D surfaces)
- The exported project can be visualized in an external IFC viewer for collision detection
- Attribute data (material, dimensions, year of construction, etc.) is transferred from the database via IFC
- The number of exported attribute data fields can be defined individually
