Interfaces and Data Exchange Formats
In civil engineering and infrastructure planning, many stakeholders work together: engineering offices, planners, authorities, municipal utilities, and construction companies – often using different software solutions. Data exchange formats such as IFC, ALKIS/NAS, OKSTRA, Shape, LIS interface, or XPlanung ensure that plans as well as pipeline and building data can be transferred between systems without loss.
BBSoft® supports all common interfaces and data exchange formats used in civil engineering – directly integrated into the CAD environment and compatible with GIS systems, authorities, and external planning partners.

Data Exchange in Civil Engineering Planning
BBSoft® interfaces enable seamless data exchange between CAD, databases, GIS, and external systems. Road planning data is transferred via OKSTRA, LandXML, and REB formats; sewer data is exported using ISYBAU, DWA M 150, and IFC; and quantity calculation data is structured and transmitted via GAEB XML. ALKIS and NAS data can be imported directly into CAD and Oracle databases, while Shape, KML, and LIS enable standardized GIS export. XPlanung connects urban planning with authorities and planning partners.
Functions in Detail
The OKSTRA interface in BBSoft® enables standardized data exchange of alignment and route design data for road planning. Using OKSTRA and LandXML, planning data can be transferred between CAD systems, authorities, and planning partners without loss. REB formats cover all standardized DA exchange formats for longitudinal profiles, alignments, cross-sections, and superelevation diagrams. DA66 is additionally used in the digital terrain model (DTM) environment for cross-section data.

The IFC interface in BBSoft® enables the export of complex domain-specific data from civil engineering planning into standardized 3D BIM models. The IFC format is CAD-independent, as BBSoft® has developed its own IFC interface – not a generic standard interface of the consortium. The current version is 4x3. Attribute data such as material, dimensions, and year of construction are fully transferred.

The BBSoft® NAS converter transforms XML-based cadastral data (ALKIS) into CAD- and database-compatible files. NAS is the overarching standard for ALKIS and was defined within the AAA model. Surveying authorities provide cadastral data as XML files; BBSoft® converts these into CAD drawings – including parcels, buildings, boundaries, and survey points.

BBSoft® supports all standardized interfaces for sewer and water networks. ISYBAU and DWA M 150 enable standardized data exchange for sewer networks with municipalities and authorities. The LIS interface was developed for water and sewer cadastre according to Austrian standards and is a prerequisite for funding eligibility. Shape and KML enable GIS export for network and planning data. HEC-RAS allows the export of terrain data for hydraulic watercourse calculations.

GAEB XML is the standardized data exchange format for bills of quantities and calculation data in the construction billing. XPlanung version 5.2 enables the lossless exchange of development plans and land-use plans with authorities and planning partners in accordance with the IT Planning Council standard. The XPlanGML file format meets INSPIRE requirements and has been mandatory for municipalities since 2024.
